Göteborg Opera House Göteborg Opera House is one of the world’s most modern opera houses, idyllically situated at the Packhuskajen quay in central Göteborg. The Opera House was completed in 1994 and has a capacity of 1,350. The repertoire includes a diverse range of opera, ballet, light opera and musicals. Göteborg Opera House has a very special exterior, and the interior is also well worth a visit. The architect behind this beautiful work is Jan Izikowitz.
Haga Haga is a wonderful district to stroll through. Small shops selling everything from antiques to the latest trends, as well as pleasant cafés and restaurants, line the cobbled streets. Göteborg Art Museum Göteborg Art Museum has a unique collection of Nordic art including works by Ernst Josephson, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, Harriet Backer, Edvard Munch, Anders Zorn and others. Stroll through the centuries and see works by Rembrandt, Picasso and Chagall, and from the Danish golden age.
Slottsskogen park Slottsskogen is a place for both relaxation and activity. This is where events such as the Spring Run and the Göteborg Half Marathon begin. Visit the Natural History Museum, play Frisbee golf, take a look at the Nordic animals in the enclosures, or simply relax on the lawns.Slottsskogen is a hive of activity all year round.
GötheborgsUtkiken See Göteborg from above. At 86 metres high you are guaranteed one of the best views of the city. The building that contains GötheborgsUtkiken is commonly known as the 'Lipstick', because of its special design and colouring.
Liseberg At Scandinavia's largest amusement park, you'll find rides ranging from child-friendly carousels to terrifying roller-coasters. The Main Stage offers concerts by many famous Swedish and international artists. The park is open daily May to August, on weekends only in April and September-October. Liseberg is also open for a short winter season, when you can enjoy a typical Swedish Christmas market and pony riding.
The Archipelago The unique Göteborg archipelago is an extraordinary experience. Find some of the many untouched spots, and explore the charming little fishing villages. There are endless opportunities for excursions in the beautiful archipelago. For instance, Marstrand Island can easily be reached by boat or car. With a history dating back to the 13th century, this is now the meeting-place of the sailing community. Another tour by boat is to the picturesque fishing village of Åstol, where the traditional way of preparing herring and salted ling is demonstrated. Elfsborg Fortress This 17th century fortress is located at the mouth of the Göta River and has a fascinating history. The island boasts a café, dungeons and a period church. Why not take a guided boat tour, 30 minutes, out to the fortress island? It covers the inner and outer parts of the harbour, and a guide welcomes you to the island and talks about the captivating history of the fortress. The tours depart from Lilla Bommen between 4 May and 1 September, weekends only in September.
Tjolöholm Castle Tjolöholm Castle dates back to the early 20th century and is located at Kungsbackafjorden. Discover beautiful walking paths, bathing spots, stables and a church. The stunning countryside here is also home to a diverse bird life.
Nääs Slott Mansion, Floda August Abrahamsson's home is a shining example of the interior design of the late 19th century. The castle holds handicraft and woodwork exhibitions, Midsummer celebrations and a Christmas market. The perfect setting for rambling, fishing and bathing.
